Monitor Buying Guide for Remote Workers

Resolution, size, panel type, refresh rate — how to choose the right monitor for working from home.

Resolution

For productivity, resolution matters for text clarity. 4K (3840×2160) at 27" is the gold standard — text is razor sharp. 1440p (2560×1440) at 27" is acceptable. Avoid 1080p at 27" — text looks blurry. At 24", 1080p is fine for general work but 1440p is noticeably better.

Size

27" is the sweet spot for single-monitor setups. 24" works for smaller desks. 32" is great if you sit further back. For dual setups, two 24" monitors are the most practical. Ultrawide (34") replaces dual monitors but can't be split as cleanly.

Panel Type

IPS panels have the best color accuracy and viewing angles — ideal for design work and general use. VA panels have better contrast and deeper blacks but slower response. TN panels are cheap and fast but have poor viewing angles and colors. For WFH, go IPS.
